What Happens When You Write It Down

Journaling has been one of the most healing practices of my life.

Not because I write perfectly. Not because I always know what I am going to say. And definitely not because every page sounds beautiful.

Journaling heals because it gives the truth somewhere to go.

So many of us carry so much inside our bodies. Feelings we have not named. Thoughts we keep circling. Grief, frustration, longing, resentment, hope, fear, joy — all living inside us, waiting for space.

When we write, we create that space.

The page does not judge us. It does not interrupt. It does not need us to make sense right away.

It simply holds what we are finally willing to tell the truth about.

And sometimes, once we see the words on paper, we can finally see ourselves with more compassion.

That is the gift.

Journaling is not about being a writer. It is about being honest. It is about letting what is inside come out of your body and onto the page so it can be seen, loved, released, or understood.

You can write three lines. You can write one word. You can write, I don’t know, over and over until something deeper comes.

There is no wrong way to begin.

Just begin.

Give yourself five quiet minutes. No rules. Just honesty.
