Growth Does Not Have to Exhaust You

This four-part October series follows the wisdom of fall: release what has become too heavy, listen for what is true, and choose what you will carry into the next season.
Releasing the belief that struggle is the only path to change
For a long time, many of us have measured growth by how hard we worked, how much we carried, and how tired we were when we reached the other side. We learned to trust effort we could see. We believed that if change did not cost us something, it might not count.
But growth does not happen only through exhaustion. It also happens through rest, letting go, and surrender. Some of the most powerful changes in us begin in stillness, when we stop forcing an answer and allow ourselves to hear what has been waiting underneath all the noise.
Your life does not fall apart because you pause. Often, the pause enriches your life. It gives your nervous system room to settle. It lets your body speak. It helps you notice whether the life you are building is one you can actually live inside with peace.
This can feel uncomfortable when you have spent years being the dependable one, the capable one, or the one who keeps everything moving. Rest may bring guilt before it brings relief. You may hear an old voice asking what you should be doing or who might be disappointed in you. That discomfort does not mean the pause is wrong. It may simply mean you are learning a new way to be with yourself.
It’s time to stop feeling guilty for resting. Every time you listen to your need for quiet, allow yourself to breathe, or give your body what it is asking for, you choose yourself instead of abandoning yourself. Those moments may look small from the outside, but they are powerful moments of growth.
The small joys matter too. A warm drink. A slow walk. Sunlight through the window. A conversation that leaves you feeling more like yourself. Our path is rarely revealed through one dramatic moment. More often, it becomes visible through quiet moments that feel honest and alive.
Presence helps us recognize them.
Fall shows us that release is part of growth. The trees do not cling to every leaf to prove that they are thriving. They let go, become still, and trust that life continues beneath the surface. We are allowed to do the same.
This season, I am releasing the demand that every meaningful change must come through struggle. I am making room for rest to teach me, for stillness to restore me, and for joy to show me what belongs.
A gentle pause
Where have I been treating exhaustion as proof that I am growing?
What is my body asking me to pause, release, or receive?
What small joy is trying to get my attention today?
You do not have to earn the right to rest. You are allowed to grow gently.

Remembering You is an intimate retreat created for the woman who has spent years carrying, fixing, and holding everything together—and is ready to gently lay down what was never hers to carry.
When we change the world changes.
