Your Power Lives in the Present Moment
Your power is always in the present moment.
This truth became especially clear to me as I attended events with my mentor during my apprenticeship in Phoenix over the last few days. Being fully present allowed me to notice something subtle yet profound: when I slow down enough to look inside and feel an emotion as it’s happening, instead of reacting to it, I gain access to real insight and healing.
What I realized is this:
It’s never about what someone else says.
People are always talking. And yet the same words affect each of us differently. One person feels triggered, another shrugs it off, another feels inspired. That’s how we know the power isn’t in the words themselves, it’s in what those words touch inside of us.
When someone says something and it sparks an emotional reaction, they aren’t causing the wound. They are simply showing us where it is. What we feel is information. It’s an invitation to look inward.
So often, those reactions are connected to old wounds from childhood. Experiences we buried deep inside, tucked away in the subconscious. We may not consciously remember them, but they live in our bodies and our emotional responses. When something touches them, we react before we even realize what’s happening.
The shift comes when we stop trying to change, fix, or blame the person in front of us, and instead choose to witness.
Witnessing sounds like this:
What is this touching in me?
Where does this feeling live in my body?
What story is being activated right now?
Maybe it’s a wound of feeling isolated.
Maybe it’s the belief that you’re not enough.
Maybe it’s the old ache of not feeling seen or loved.
There’s no need to shame it. No need to judge it. No need to “fix” it.
Just awareness.
When you meet that part of yourself with curiosity and compassion, something beautiful happens. You can bless that tender place, thank it for showing itself, and gently release it. This keeps you out of judgment, of yourself, of the situation, and of the perfectly placed person standing right in front of you.
Presence gives you choice.
Presence gives you freedom.
Presence returns your power to you.
And from that place, healing unfolds naturally.
Think of a recent moment when you felt emotionally triggered.
What did the situation stir up inside of you, beyond the words that were spoken?
- What belief or wound might that moment have touched?
Did it connect to feeling unseen, not enough, unloved, or disconnected? - If you could speak kindly to that younger part of you right now,
what would you say to bless, soothe, and release it?
