What Happens When You Stop Hiding From Yourself

Something unexpected happened when I stopped managing myself.

I thought the feelings would be too big. I thought if I stopped going around them , if I actually stood inside them instead of spiritualizing them away or serving my way past them,  I would fall apart. Be overwhelmed. Lose myself entirely.

What actually happened was the opposite.

I got quieter. Not on the outside, on the inside. A quiet I hadn’t felt in years. Maybe ever.

My nervous system softened. And as it softened, everything else did too.

Here is what nobody tells you about the work of coming home to yourself:

It doesn’t make you more fragile. It makes you more grounded.

When you stop hiding from yourself, when you finally turn toward the feeling instead of away from it, your nervous system stops living in a constant state of low-grade alert. Because the thing it was bracing against was never out there. It was in here. It was the unfelt feeling. The unloved part. The hidden self who had been knocking quietly for years.

And when you let her in? When you sit with her, love her, stop asking her to wait?

She stops knocking so loudly.

I am no longer disrupted by what others do, think, or say. Because I know something deeper now. I am seen…by me.

What I want you to understand is that the sensitivity you’ve been managing, the deep feeling nature you were taught was too much, is actually your nervous system’s most exquisite gift.

It is the thing that makes you discerning. Intuitive. Present to what others miss. Capable of a depth of connection that most people only glimpse.

But it requires tending. It requires you to be in relationship with it,  not managing it from a distance, not overriding it with busyness or service or spiritual frameworks that bypass the feeling entirely.

In relationship with it. Present to it. Willing to feel what it’s carrying.

Here is what begins to shift when you do:

The relationships in your life start to change. Not because other people changed, but because you stopped needing things from them you can now give yourself. You stop being disrupted by what others do or say. You stop needing to be seen by them, because you have begun to see yourself.

You begin to receive. Not just give. And receiving, it turns out, is one of the most radical things a woman like you can do.

You become — not smaller, not quieter, not more manageable — but more yourself. More present. More free.

That is what waits on the other side of hiding.

Not chaos. Not overwhelm.

Freedom.

Teaching alongside her has been a joy and a privilege, as she brings such depth, wisdom, and authenticity to everything she does. Judy’s presence is a gift to all who have the opportunity to work with her, and I’m so grateful for the profound connection we share.
