‘Tis the season

It seems like this year has flown by. I think I say that every year at this time. I am beyond grateful for my life and the people in it. The connections I have make my life extraordinary.

These connections start with Spirit, then myself, family, friends (many of whom I consider my family), guests at work, and people that I have only a brief experience with. Each one is precious to me and adds a richness to my life that I didn’t realize I was missing.

Some of our most beloved connections can be a bit challenging from time to time, especially this time of year when we are so busy with gatherings, cooking, decorating, and gift buying; all this added to our already full schedules. We become preoccupied with the beliefs that if we decorate more, buy the more expensive gifts, host the perfect holiday gathering that our experience will be more meaningful; that we’ll create the perfect memories. All the while we’re exhausted and at the end of our rope and forgetting to enjoy and BE instead of having to constantly do. (Not that I’ve ever done that…every holiday.)

One of the most freeing things I’ve experienced is putting down my expectations. That allows me to be in the moment as the memories unfold instead of thinking how things and people should be. I know that I don’t want to miss a single minute of making memories. Think about it, some of the memories that are shared the most are the ones that didn’t turn out as expected; you burned the turkey, forgot the gifts at home, etc.

My intention in the past was to have the perfect holiday gatherings. I missed a lot of connection because I was preoccupied with the details of everything going off without a hitch.

My intention now is to make memories through my connection; to BE present and soak up all the feels of just being in the moment; that’s where the magic is!

When we change the world changes.
