The Day I Realized I Didn’t Have to Carry Everything Alone
There wasn’t one dramatic moment when my life changed.
It happened slowly.
Quietly.
One conversation at a time.
One honest admission at a time.
One tear at a time.
For most of my life, I believed that being strong meant handling everything myself.
I didn’t talk much about what I was feeling. Looking back, I didn’t even know that I fully knew what I was feeling. And mostly I didn’t know that I wasn’t feeling… I was intellectualizing my feelings; there’s a big difference. Somewhere along the way, I had learned to put up a wall—not because I wanted to hide from other people, but because it felt safer than feeling everything I was carrying.
So, I became the responsible one.
The dependable one.
The one who could always figure it out.
The one who took care of everyone else.
And while I became very good at doing life, I wasn’t very good at letting people into my inner world.
The interesting thing about emotions is that they don’t disappear simply because we ignore them.
They wait.
They settle into our bodies.
They show up as exhaustion, tension, anxiety, resentment, overwhelm, or that constant feeling of carrying something heavy that you can’t quite name.
For years, I thought that was just life.
I thought everyone carried that weight.
Then I began spending time in mentoring groups and mastermind communities.
At first, I mostly listened.
I admired the women who could openly share what they were struggling with.
I remember thinking, how do they do that?
Little by little, I began sharing pieces of my own story.
Not all at once.
Just enough.
And something surprising happened.
No one judged me.
No one told me I was too much.
No one tried to fix me.
Instead, they listened.
They witnessed me.
They reminded me that I wasn’t alone.
Looking back, I realized that was the beginning of my healing.
Every time I spoke something out loud that I had been carrying by myself, it felt a little lighter.
Every time someone said, “I’ve felt that too,” I felt a little less alone.
Every time I allowed myself to be seen, another brick came out of the wall I had spent years building.
One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is that healing doesn’t happen because someone rescues us.
Healing happens because we no longer have to carry everything in isolation.
We were created for connection.
Not to have someone solve our problems, but to have someone sit beside us while we walk through them.
Today, I still experience difficult seasons.
Life hasn’t stopped being life.
But I move through those seasons differently now.
I don’t stuff my feelings.
I don’t pretend everything is okay when it isn’t.
I have trusted people who hold space for me.
People who ask good questions.
People who lovingly remind me of who I am when I’ve forgotten.
People who celebrate with me, cry with me, and encourage me to keep growing.
I’ve learned that vulnerability isn’t weakness.
It’s freedom.
And maybe that’s why creating this group mentoring space feels so important to me.
Not because I have all the answers.
But because I know the power of having a place where you don’t have to pretend.
A place where you can take off the mask.
A place where you can say, “This is what’s true for me today.”
A place where your story is held with compassion instead of judgment.
I know what it feels like to carry everything alone.
I also know what it feels like to finally put some of it down.
And I can honestly tell you…
The moment you realize you don’t have to carry it all by yourself is the moment something beautiful begins to change.
Maybe not all at once.
Maybe not overnight.
But one honest conversation…
One trusted relationship…
One safe space at a time.
Sometimes the bravest thing we ever do isn’t carrying more.
Sometimes it’s allowing ourselves to be held.
You don’t have to carry it all alone anymore.
