Who were you before the world told you who you should be?
Who were you before the world told you who you should be?
Can you remember?
I can remember being a fierce little girl, filled with joy, who wanted everyone to feel loved, be cared for, and happy.
I didn’t feel deserving of those things for myself until everyone in my life was taken care of. I appointed myself as their keeper and put up a wall to keep from receiving what I thought someone else needed more than I did.
Of course, I didn’t realize I was doing this until much later in my life.
I got to the point where I was miserable, feeling lost, bitter, and resentful.
I felt like I was losing the last essence of who I was in people pleasing and denying myself the joy that I knew somewhere deep inside that I deserved.
It was a process to understand how and why I moved so far away from my true essence and made everyone’s needs more important than my own.
Here are some things I learned from that process:
My true worth is found inside of me, it’s always been there no matter what I do, think, or say. I am worthy because I am. My worth is not dependent on what others think or say about me or what I accomplish or acquire. The same is true for you.
As I am grounded in knowing my value, I am more peaceful. I don’t look out in the world and judge myself because of what others think, do, or say.
I know who I am.
I couldn’t make anyone feel loved, cared for or happy.
We are all in charge of our own lives. How we feel about things comes from inside of us. No matter how hard we try to make someone feel loved, they can only feel our love to the degree that they feel lovable and will allow love in their lives.
The way we inspire others is by showing them how we make changes in our own lives, not by trying to ‘fix’ things about them or make them better.
Actions speak louder than words.
The process of becoming who I am is ongoing.
Who I am is letting go of who I thought I should be and allowing myself to receive all the blessings that are meant for me.
What blessings are you open to receive this week?
When we change the world changes.
