What’s your meditation practice?
Did you notice I said practice? Meditation is not something to bring to perfection. Your experience will likely be different each time you meditate.
They key for me was to learn not to judge my thoughts and not be frustrated with myself because I couldn’t quiet my mind.
It’s challenging to get into a relaxed state when you’re beating yourself up for not being relaxed, have you been there?
First thing every morning I meditate. Having this routine has changed my life. I fill myself with peace and acceptance, so I will have peace and acceptance to offer myself and others throughout the day. I like to do a guided meditation most mornings. I find it easier to keep a focus when listening to a meditation.
I set an intention every morning and create a simple mantra to repeat to myself during the day. It serves as a reminder of where I want my focus to be. Life happens all day and it’s easy to get pulled from our place of peace and acceptance into drama and frustration. Repeating a mantra helps bring me back to where I want to be.
This morning my focus was on freeing myself of confusion. One of my self-sabotage behaviors has been to create a very busy mind. This generates confusion and has kept me second guessing myself, my decisions, and my choices.
My mantra is: I live in harmony.
Another form of meditation I practice during the day is using different breathing techniques. Any time I feel emotion coming up, that is a reminder to pause and take a breath. Typically, the first thing we do when we feel anxious, nervous, or triggered in any way is hold our breath. When we do that, we stop that emotion right where it is in our body. Pausing, closing our eyes, and taking a breath can help move that energy a bit until you have more time to explore it, then release it.
Meditation has many benefits from stress relief to staying centered, improving sleep quality, increasing patience, along with a host of physical benefits as well. There are many different types of meditation, I encourage you to try a few and commit to a meditation practice.
When we change the world changes.
