What you’re afraid of controls you

What you’re afraid of controls you.

How much of our power are we giving to fear?

The fear that we’re not enough, not perfect, or don’t measure up to other’s expectations of us.

I saw this poem yesterday and it resonated deeply with me.

The Next Time

The next time you refuse to sing

because you’ll never

fill a stadium

or decline the joy of dance

for fear of looking

ridiculous

or you resist risking

the new adventure

because you’re

not entirely ready or

you dim your shine

because you’re not

completely healed and whole

The next time

you hold yourself suspect

because you’re not

entirely qualified

Just remember

A bird doesn’t sing

because it’s talented.

A bird sings because

It has a song.

The moon doesn’t only shine

when it’s whole.

It can show up with

a single sliver of itself

and still light an entire

night sky.

Show up. Sing. Shine.

The world needs you

as you are.

Angi Sullins

Close your eyes and take a deep breath.

Where is fear keeping you from expressing yourself?

Fear of what others will think or say.

Fear of being left out.

Fear of not knowing enough.

Fear of looking ridiculous.

We are more powerful than our fears. As we become responsible for looking at our fears and questioning them instead of letting them control us; stepping into them, we live our life full out, expressing who we are.

What we’re afraid of controls us. But when we become accountable, we take our power back from fear and live the life we were meant to live.

When we change the world changes.
