*Willingness to show emotion or to allow one’s weakness to be seen or known; willingness to risk being emotionally hurt.
The foundation for open communication consists of honesty, trust, and vulnerability.
This vulnerability stuff has been a tough one for me, what about you?
I grew up on a farm with five brothers and in my mind, I had to be tough and never show emotion to fit in and partly to be at the top of the pecking order. Vulnerability was seen as being weak. It’s taken me a while to look at it differently.
I’ve learned that being vulnerable is a great strength.
As I strengthen and deepen my connection with myself, I naturally share more of who I am.
Being vulnerable creates deeper levels of connection with ourselves and others.
I used to be afraid of what people would think if I shared too much or did too much or was too much. It took me a long time to take down the wall I put up that I thought was keeping me safe, keeping me from being hurt.
What I didn’t realize is that my wall was keeping me from what I desired the most, love and connection.
Being vulnerable has given me the strength to become more fully me.
I believe that’s what we’re here for, to be who we are and share that unique spark of Divinity that we came here to share. Without fear of judgment from others, but especially from ourselves, often we’re our own worst critic.
Being vulnerable has given me the strength to share more of who I am.
Not only does being vulnerable help build stronger connections with ourselves and others, it gives others permission to be vulnerable in their lives.
Being vulnerable lets us know we’re not alone in our thoughts and struggles. There was a time when I thought that others didn’t struggle with the things I did, but as I shared, others also shared they had the same struggles.
One thing I’ve learned for sure is that we’re not meant to live life alone. Connections are everywhere, sometimes in the most unlikely places.
Be vulnerable and present enough to recognize the opportunities you’re given every day for connection, otherwise you can miss blessings meant for you.
Being vulnerable is a choice we make moment by moment. The more we practice, the stronger we become.
When we change the world changes.
