The Camino called and I answered.

The Camino called and I answered.

For over 1200 years, people have walked Spain’s ancient pilgrimage path, the Camino de Santiago.

I’m going with a group to Spain in September to walk the Camino de Santiago! We will start in Sarria and make our way to Santiago de Compostela.

We will walk for 8 days to cover the distance of approximately 111 km. and end at the majestic Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela where the remains of Apostle St. James the Great are believed to rest.

We’ll walk through forests, down dirt paths, and through beautiful towns rich in history where we can rest and get food and water.

I have been walking several miles every day and on Sundays I go to a trail near my home and walk 10 miles. I also committed to going to an extra class on Saturday mornings for core and conditioning and a stretch class.

Going to the Saturday classes was intimidating to me when I started. I was used to the Fit over 50 class with women my age, but the Saturday classes are for all ages. I found that I was able to keep up better than I imagined.

I got fitted for shoes that would support my feet during my walk, and bought toe socks, hiking pants, and many other things suggested for this trip.

Preparing for this walk has been a catalyst for me to get in better shape; physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. I am learning a new level of discipline.

The Camino de Santiago is not merely a path but a transformative adventure, a journey through history, and a worldwide gathering, all in one. This journey draws thousands from across the globe, offering a unique and unforgettable adventure.

I love to experience new places, traditions, cultures, and people. I’m not going to do a lot of research or read tons of reviews before going. I don’t want to have preconceived notions of how things should be. I plan to live fully in the moment and immerse myself in the magic of each day, remembering parts of myself that I’ve forgotten. I’m excited to share my journey, stay tuned!

When we change the world changes.
