Slowing down to propel forward
I don’t know about you, but it’s been challenging to get back to the routine I was in before the holidays. I’m definitely a creature of habit.
With the snowstorm we had, I didn’t leave home for four days! I was happy to stay inside where it was warm and cozy and not brave the frigid weather. Besides, I came down with a cold and spent the better part of two days on the couch.
I was thankful to have the time to do that without the guilt I would normally feel for doing nothing.
As I’ve gotten older, I have relaxed my expectations for what I get done in a day. It feels good and I still can have that annoying feeling that I’m not doing enough.
Honoring my body’s need for rest and releasing guilt is an act of self-love. Learning to balance doing and being is one of my core life lessons.
I’m learning that we can have this and that. It doesn’t have to be this or that.
I chose to honor my body by resting when I wanted to rest. That was enough.
I believe this year will bring us many opportunities to choose how we look at things and where we use our energy will be more important than ever.
Intention will also be at the forefront of what we experience. The intention behind what we do and say can either align with our purpose or push against it. That will be magnified this year.
Our why or intention is what fuels what we do, it determines how we do it. It’s important to be clear and honest with ourselves about why we do things.
Without clear intentions we can become resentful or feel taken advantage of.
I invite you to be intentional with the things you do this week.
Spend some time journaling about what you want and why.
Then ask yourself what energy you’re putting into having it.
Know it’s possible to have this and that, it doesn’t have to be this or that.
Slowing down can actually propel us forward.
