Sedona Reflections: Returning to Myself

This week, I had the honor of attending a retreat in Sedona, one of the most beautiful and sacred places I’ve ever been. The red rocks seemed to whisper ancient wisdom, and the land itself felt alive, holding space for every woman there.

Fourteen of us gathered together, each carrying our own stories of pain, over-caring, and over-giving. One by one, hearts opened. Tears flowed. Truths were spoken. We all recognized how easily we pour out our energy for others and how rarely we leave enough for ourselves.

During one of the quiet moments, something stirred deeply within me. A familiar story rose to the surface; the belief that I am responsible for other people. For their emotions. Their happiness. Their healing. Their lives. It’s a story I’ve carried for so long that it almost felt like part of my identity.

But in the stillness of Sedona, I saw it clearly: I am not responsible for anyone else’s journey. I am responsible for my own.

That realization landed in my heart with such tenderness. I began to see that when I turn that same care inward, when I take responsibility for my energy, my joy, my alignment, it doesn’t make me selfish. It makes me sovereign. It gives others permission to take responsibility for themselves, too.

When I care for myself, I create space. Space to breathe. Space to observe. Space to simply be…a lighthouse instead of a lifeboat.

And from that space, love flows more purely. Compassion expands. Support becomes sacred rather than heavy. Service comes naturally from an open heart.

So today, I’m carrying Sedona’s lesson with me:

Take care of your own light.

Tend to your own energy.

Trust that everyone else has their own inner compass to guide them home.

Because when we shine from our fullness, we help others remember their own.

When we change the world changes.
