Intentions and Affirmations

Last week we talked about stepping out of what is no longer serving us. That can be easier said than done. Often times we are resistant to change. We become comfortable where we are. We can be comfortable even our discomfort because we are so accustomed to feeling that way. It becomes our normal. I think back on the times in my life that I felt angry and resentful. It was my normal to feel bad, like there was no hope. When I did feel good, I didn’t appreciate it. I was always waiting ‘for the other shoe to drop’. It was uncomfortable for me to feel good; I wasn’t used to it.

I am learning more every day that how I feel is a top priority for me. There is power in knowing we can choose how we feel despite what’s going on around us. It is in our nature to feel good and enjoy life. If you doubt that, just watch kids play. When we are young we play and do what makes us happy. As we grow older we start to worry about how we look, what others think, and fitting in. Then slowly, feeling good takes a back seat. Worry becomes our driving force.

So, what do we do to move past the negative chatter that we develop over our life? How do we stop that chatter from coming out in the form of nasty comments or heated reactions? It takes focus, presence, and a genuine desire to change.

First, I like to visualize how I want to feel. I do this by thinking about a time that I felt loved, happy, or whatever I want to feel. Closing our eyes and thinking about a time can take us back to how we felt.

Next, I like to create Intentions. Intentions keep me focused and in my lane. Intentions set the direction I want for my life.

Then, to support my intentions I create Affirmations. Affirmations are a great way to shift the negative chatter in our heads. When we replace the negative with something positive, we feel better. When we feel better we look for other things in our life that make us feel good instead of focusing on what we don’t want.

It’s only been the past few years that I was aware of how I felt. The more time I spend feeling good, the more I want to feel good. These days I notice immediately when I don’t feel good and shift my thinking. Now, feeling good is my normal.

With practice and focus, we can transform our mindset. Choose courage over fear. Just take one step at a time.  Send me an email – I would love to help you with setting some intentions and creating affirmations to support them.

When we change the world changes.
