Intention is behind everything we do
There are a lot of things that we don’t have control over the outcome, however what we can control is our intention.
I’ve been learning over the last years how important intention is. It’s taken getting brutally honest with myself.
Behind everything we do is intention, whether we are aware of it or not.
I’ve learned to get very clear on my intentions before having conversations, especially ones that might be difficult.
I ask myself what it is that I want to convey.
I check in with how I’m feeling; am I in a space to be kind?
I ask myself what my expectations are. The expectations are for me, not the other person as I don’t have control over anyone besides myself.
Then I set an intention.
My intention is to bring love to the situation.
I close my eyes and repeat I bring love to this situation.
I surrender the outcome and bring love.
Even if the outcome of the situation wasn’t what I’d hoped for, I was true to my intention. And intentions show through your actions.
Now, the situation could be very different if I went into a difficult conversation with the intention of proving that I was right, or someone was wrong. I know, I’ve done it a lot of times. I wasn’t aware that was my intention, or maybe I was, I just didn’t know how important my intention was and how it contributed to the outcome.
I invite you to become aware of your intentions.
Do you do things just to get something in return?
Do you have expectations of how people show up, especially after you’ve given them something or done something for them?
Our intentions have energy that can be felt by us and others, that’s why it’s important to be clear on what we want to bring to the situations in our lives.
When we change the world changes.
