How much time do you spend feeling overwhelmed?
I’m talking about those days at home that we have so much to do that we think we’ll never get caught up.
Or the times that we’re so busy at work that we can’t possibly do one more task.
Or the season in our life when we’re in weddings, planning showers, planning our own wedding, and buying our first home; starting our adult life.
Or the season in our life when we start a family.
We find so much to be overwhelmed about.
We put pressure on ourselves to accomplish and acquire things by a certain age.
We have expectations of ourselves and others that can set us up for being disappointed and overwhelmed.
When we’re overwhelmed, it means we’re not keeping up with our blessings.
Read that over and pause for a moment. Close your eyes and see if this resonates with you.
Could it be that if we realized that all the things that we feel overwhelmed about are things that we wanted desperately, prayed for, and manifested in our lives.
How much time do we spend wanting that promotion at work? Then when we get it, it’s not all we think it should be.
We want lots of close friends to share our lives with. Then we get overwhelmed when we’re in the middle of the busy season of growing up.
We want a bigger house and new car, then we’re overwhelmed taking care of and paying for more.
But before we got or accomplished these things, we desperately wanted them.
Many times, I haven’t taken the time to be filled with gratitude for my many blessings. I would jump straight to feeling overwhelmed.
Gratitude is an antidote for feeling overwhelmed.
At the first sign that you’re feeling overwhelmed, pause, take a deep breath.
Close your eyes.
Breathe in gratitude and breathe out the overwhelm you’re feeling.
Focusing on the gratitude for our blessings dissolves our feelings of being overwhelmed.
It takes practice and presence to change your focus from feeling overwhelmed to feeling grateful.
Believe me, you’ll be given countless opportunities to choose to do that every single day.
Which feels better?
Choose that!
When we change the world changes.
