Fear vs. Love

Today more than ever there seems to be more fear in the world than love. Could it be all about were our attention is? Does putting our attention on hope and solutions mean we’re denying there are problems?

We have a choice where to focus our attention. It takes practice and awareness to shift from seeing what we don’t want to what we want. The choice we make on where we put our thoughts and awareness in any given moment dictates how we see a person or situation. Love and fear can be seen in the same thing and how we experience the world depends on where we put our attention.

We for sure don’t choose everything that happens in our life or in our world. We can choose how  we look at everything, what we focus on. We perceive things a certain way because of how we feel when we see or hear about them. What have we been trained to go to…love or fear? We make this choice unconsciously all day. Awareness reminds us we have a choice to see what we want to see.

There are only two emotions: love and fear. What is not love is fear. Fear can be masked as anger, guilt, shame, criticism, racism, and even clearing the grocery store shelves. Love says “I understand fear I don’t judge you”. Fear separates us, love connects us with a sense of belonging. Fred Rogers said, “Love isn’t a state of perfect caring. It’s an active noun like struggle. To love someone is to strive to accept that person exactly the way he or she is right here and now”.

Choosing to see goodness in people doesn’t mean we’re ignoring their faults. It doesn’t mean their faults don’t exist. It means we choose to focus on the good because that feels better than focusing on the negative. That’s seeing with love. Focus on faults serves no one. When we feel good our day goes smoother and we send out good to others. The opposite is true for seeing faults and ignoring the good. We might feel like we’re right and justified in our judgements and that could be true too. Polarity exists in everything. We get to choose what we give our attention to.

So, is there really more fear than love in the world? I say no and I’m right. I believe there’s more love. I prefer to see love. Remember, you get to choose and you will be right.

When we change the world changes.
