“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass…It’s about learning to dance in the rain”

Some really great friends gave me this picture when my mom passed away. I cherish the comforting message. I was really sad and at the same time, I could experience happiness by thinking of good times and sharing stories with those close to her. I felt alone and sharing those stories brought about connection. I could feel only sadness or I could feel happy and connected at the same time.

How many times in our lives do we think we can’t be happy, peaceful, or satisfied until everything is like we think it should be? How much time do we spend being frustrated because things don’t work out like we plan?

Life is full of unexpected twists and turns. Just when we think we’re headed in a direction and it’s smooth sailing the Universe with all its infinite wisdom seems to say, ‘Let’s just throw this in and see what happens. This is an opportunity to learn and grow. Will you choose staying stuck feeling sorry for yourself or will you pick yourself up and focus on the blessings it brings?’ I’m learning that focusing on the blessings – and there are always blessings – brings me a sense of peace.

In life, it isn’t as much what happens as what we tell ourselves about what happens. This doesn’t mean that we don’t experience tragic things in our lives or that we pretend those things don’t affect us. It means we have a choice of how to navigate through those times. We for sure need to feel our feelings and work through them…AND we can have times of being happy while we’re doing that.

Getting stuck feeling bad about something holds us in a low vibration. It’s challenging to feel better when we focus only on feeling bad. We can shift that by doing something that brings us joy. The more joy we experience the better we feel. As we feel better it is easier for us to get through the tough times.

We all experience challenging times in our lives and learning to put our focus on how we want to feel and what we want brings us the grace to come through those times.

What will you do today to shift your thinking? Have you been waiting long enough for ‘the storm to pass’? Will you give yourself permission to be happy AND work through your experience? Life is too short to wait to be happy! When we learn that we can be going through a struggle and give ourselves permission to live fully we find the strength to choose joy in our lives.

When we change the world changes.
