What’s Your Story Around Emotions?

My story was that showing emotions made you weak. I couldn’t look weak, I had five brothers and needed to be at the top of the pecking order. I remember biting the inside of my cheek to keep tears from falling.

Anger was the only acceptable emotion. You could be pissed off and let everyone know that and project that anger on to everyone. That felt like power. For a few minutes until the guilt and shame took over.

Take a moment to reflect:

Were you taught emotions were bad or weak?

Do you judge yourself for feeling “too much”?

Is there a belief that showing emotion is dangerous?

Common stories sound like:

“Showing emotions makes me weak.”

“If I let myself cry, I won’t stop.”

“Anger is bad. Good people don’t get angry.”

“Other people have it so much worse than you do”

These stories create shame and suppression. But what if feeling your emotions is actually a path to power? To alignment? To your most real self?

Reclaiming Your Emotional Freedom

Emotional awareness is not about being “emotional.” It’s about being honest. It’s about meeting yourself fully.

When we allow ourselves to feel:

We release what’s stuck

We hear the wisdom behind the emotion

We align with our truth

We become more compassionate and less reactive.

Try This:

Name It: Pause and ask, “What am I feeling right now?”

Locate It: Where is it in your body?

Allow It: Without judgment or needing to fix it, simply breathe and feel.

Be Curious: What is this emotion here to teach me?

Release the Story: Let the sensation move without attaching meaning.

Emotions are messengers. They’re not here to control you or destroy you. They’re here to free you. When you learn to listen without judgment and feel without resistance, you return to your center—and your soul.
