What do you want to create in 2024?
We have less than a month left in 2023.
Every December I start taking inventory of the year, month by month. Each year my husband and I talk about how fast the year has gone. We are always sure it’s been the fastest one ever.
My parents and grandparents told me that the older you get, the faster time goes. I didn’t think that was possible, now I know it is.
What are some things you wanted to do this year that you haven’t done yet?
I was going to clean out the basement storage area, attic, and the garage. I had beautiful visions of a construction dumpster parked in our driveway while we were off work for a week.
We would load up everything that we could donate or recycle, and the rest would go into the dumpster. Can you feel my excitement here?
In my vision, I saw myself happily skipping out to the dumpster with load after load of stuff that was broken or that nobody else could possibly want; like old letters and cards, broken stereo, 50-year-old saxophone, broken suitcase…and so much more.
Also in my vision, I saw my husband with a very heavy heart every time he gently laid something in the dumpster after he looked at it and reminisced about it for at least 20 minutes.
My husband is a ‘keeper’, in more ways than one. He’s the best husband, dad, gramps, and he likes to keep stuff. He is sentimental about stuff.
As I said, I was going to get rid of a lot of stuff, and that didn’t get done. That will go on the list for next year and I’ll try again.
I’m learning not to stress about what doesn’t get done. It’s more important to enjoy time traveling and being with family and friends.
One great thing about getting older is that I have mellowed out a lot about getting things done. I know it will wait.
I am spending time in December feeling into what I want to create for 2024.
Sometimes getting quiet and taking time to be in your heart is the important work.
It’s not always about what we accomplish, we don’t get it all done.
Joy comes from creating from our heart, and when we follow our joy, the outcome isn’t nearly as important as the journey toward it.
Take some quiet time to look back on what you’ve done this year.
What brought you joy?
I am excited to share some of my heart creations with you!
