The year of self-care

We talked last week about what’s coming up in the new year. It’s going to be another year of changes and realizations. We’re going to need to learn to navigate through the transition in a different way if we’re going to continue to grow and live our best lives. I will be sharing some things I’ve found helpful to keep me on track and grounded.

This year is all about self-care. We must learn to care for ourselves, to give ourselves what we need, to become our top priority.

Did reading that make you cringe, feel a little queasy or did you want to run?

It’s time to stop waiting for permission to take care of ourselves and give ourselves the permission we need.

We are the one we’ve been waiting for.

As we learn to focus on ourselves, we teach others that they can do the same. It’s often easier to tell others how to take care of themselves than to show them, agree? Do what I say, not what I do. Doing it is what others pay attention to.

Have you heard the term holding space?

Holding space: being physically, mentally, emotionally present for someone to support them as they feel their feelings. Without judgements or advice, only compassion and kindness. Creating safety so someone feels seen, heard, understood, and cared for.

By not judging or giving advice we encourage others to feel their emotions which can lead to healing.

Can we do that for ourselves? Can we sit in a place of nonjudgement and compassion for ourselves so we can feel and release emotions that we’ve been holding?

I always considered it an honor to hold space for others. I never thought about doing that for myself.

Taking the time to sit in our emotions without judging our thoughts or feelings cultivates a safe space within us for us to heal unresolved hurts. When we let go of emotions and pain, we don’t project it onto others.

It’s great to have someone to be compassionate and loving to us and we can be that for ourselves too.

The more we create a safe loving space within us, the more we trust ourselves. Then we start to look inside instead of outside of us for guidance and validation.

When we change the world changes.
